BATS Data Product
Motivation
The Bermuda Atlantic Time-Series (BATS) is one of the ocean’s longest running time-series sampling efforts. BATS has yielded a trove of data through the core BATS program and through ancillary projects that have studied the same location, but this data can be difficult to find, organize, and harmonize for larger analysis efforts. Furthermore, 'omics approaches are increasingly used to investigate microbial community dynamics, but summarized, processed 'omics data are not available for re-use or co-analysis with other data.
To encourage re-use and meta-analyses of BATS core and ancillary data, including data from C-CoMP projects, the Center is creating, populating, and maintaining a BATS Data Product hosted on Simons Collaborative Marine Atlas Project to enhance accessibility.
What is the BATS Data Product?
The BATS Data Product is a collection of datasets on CMAP that contain data points +/- 1 degree from the BATS location. The data product was created using CMAP's collection tool using the spatial-temporal region of interest (ROI) filter of 'BATS region'. No temporal or depth bounds were used to filter the datasets in this collection which also includes datasets with partial overlaps (i.e., data from BATS are part of a larger study). The first version of the BATS Data Product includes 105 datasets ranging from the time-series of BATS biogeochemical core data, satellite data, model data, metabolite data and more. Visit the CMAP collection webpage to view the BATS Data Product V1.
How can I contribute to the BATS Data Product?
Submit your data to CMAP
If you collected data from the BATS region that you would like to add to the BATS Data Product, submit your data to CMAP. The data and accompanying metadata should first be uploaded to a primary repository (e.g. BCO-DMO, NCBI's SRA, Zenodo), and then to CMAP. Once in CMAP, your dataset will be added to the current version of the BATS Data Product. If you have genomic and/or transcriptomic sequence data that you would like to submit to CMAP as a processed summary table (or tables), C-CoMP has a standardized common workflow to create output files for the BATS Data Product collection in Zenodo and CMAP. Please contact Samuel Miller (samuelmiller10@gmail.com) for assistance.
How can I use the BATS Data Product?
Download, copy, and follow the product
First, make a CMAP account so that you can save your collections. You can download all data or a subset of data from the dataset collection by making use of the temporal and depth filters. You can also copy the data product to create your own version, modifying it for your analysis needs (the original product will not be changed).
